Jonathan Foster was born in Nottingham in 1974 and is a science supply teacher at secondary schools where he enjoys the privilege and humour of making, albeit feeble, attempts to interest children in science. His success so far has been very modest. After stumbling through school himself Jonathan did various 'odd jobs' including a spell as a very minor civil servant, when he enrolled at his local technical college. Under the tutoring of the most inspirational teacher he became fascinated with science and the history of science.
His first degree was in Combined Studies in Science at The Nottingham Trent University, followed by a Master's Degree in Applied Bioscience. Jonathan graduated as a science teacher after completing his training at the fabulous Lord Grey School in Buckinghamshire.
Fascinated by eccentric inventors and the history of science; The Death Ray - The Secret Life of Harry Grindell Matthews is his first book. He is currently working on another science biography. Jonathan lives in Nottinghamshire with his family, two collies; Jessie and Sadie and an expanding waistline. His hobbies include travelling around the British Isles, eccentrics, photography, local pubs, forgotten parish churches, seaside resorts and the poetry of John Betjeman.
